Mark it down... first ear infection

Took Evan in this afternoon and he had an ear infection in his right ear only.  I am grateful it is something that can be treated as the last week with his cold has been incredibly draining; however I am now living in a state of heightened anxiety that this will follow the same course as Liam.  Not that Liam's ear tube surgery was a huge deal... but the months of antibiotics, doctor visits and sleepless nights are my new fear.  So, I hope these antibiotics work and then I hope that no more sickness comes to our family for awhile, especially not to my little Evan.

Six Months Old!!!

Our little Evan is half a year old... it happened so quickly!!!  I won't lie, I have had some of the hardest, most trying days of my life in the past six months; however it still marvels me how fast time just flies!  Here's a snapshot of our Evan:
  • Weight: 20 lbs. 1/2 ounce (90th %ile); Height: 28 inches (97th %ile); Head Circumference: 45 cm (93rd %ile)... a growing happy boy!
  • We had discontinued all the reflux meds.  He still spits up after every feeding, but not nearly as much and he doesn't seem as bothered by it... so whew.  I am glad to have him off of daily meds and it is certainly nicer to have a happier baby!
  • Adding on to the happy baby... a happy mommy who is now eating DAIRY!!!  It doesn't appear to be bothering Evan too much.  He has some moments when I am holding him and he is arching so badly that I think... aggh, this must be something I am eating.  But there is no mucus in his poop and I can't seem to nail down anything consistent.  So, I have everything back in my diet, although I am trying not to go overboard.  I ate pizza though and it. tasted. fantastic.
  • Evan is eating all sorts of foods now: pears, peaches, plums, prunes, applesauce, peas, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes, apricots... the list goes on and on.  He really likes pears, prunes, squash and sweet potato... with carrot being the only he consistently refuses after a bit.  His favorite thing by far continues to be the rice crackers... he lunges and screams for them...
  • He is into everything.  He no longer sits and observes... he lunges, rolls and screams to get his hands on everything!  Everything generally goes right into his mouth still...
  • He loves his brother so much.  They play games together.  They read books together.  Evan just watches, enamored by Liam.  It is the best thing in the world.
  • He loves playing "who took my paci", peekaboo, tickle finger, pattycake and anything Liam wants to do with him!
  • His other favorite toys include circle giraffe, little people, kitty tails book, farmyard book (that yellow duck again), anything the lights up with music and electronics (phone, ipad, remote)
  • He is in 6-9 and 9-12 clothes right now...
  • Still loves being out and doing things.  He likes being a part of things!
  • He is sitting very well, lunging forward quite frequently.  He likes to roll right to his tummy now when he is on his back.  He can move around in a circle and is trying, trying, trying to move foward/backward.  This kid doesn't just sit nicely like Liam did!
  • Sleep continues to be the biggest struggle.  He doesn't like to sleep.  His favorite place is mommy's arms.  He has had a nasty cold this week, which led to his first ear infection, but before that we were using the cry it out method.  We need to and although it still breaks my heart, he needs to learn to put himself to sleep... so once he is feeling better, back at it.  Currently he is going down around 7 and sleeping until 2ish with 1 or more wakeups.  Sometimes he is screaming inconsolably, sometimes he is cooing and gooing just playing.  Either way, getting him to go back down is hard.  He then eats around 2 and is back up at 5 to eat.  It is extremely hard to get him back down after that... which makes him cranky and tired very quickly after that.  Naps range from 20 mins to 2 hours (only once!) in his crib.  I am hoping that when I write about my seven month old I will be able to put something different in the sleep section!
  • He has been to one day of daycare... he did good.  I am just hoping he stays all three days this week!
  •  Overall this month has been a big one for Evan... moving and growing into his personality!  We love you!

Sheboygan Weekend!

Several weeks ago the boys and I packed up to Crystal Lake to stay at a cabin Ama and Papa had rented.  We had a lot of fun relaxing, playing and exploring the area.  Saturday Grandma and Grandpa came to visit!

The beautiful view!
