Our Five Year Old

This post amazes me.  How do we have a five year old?!?  I just cannot believe that five years have passed and we have such an amazing, cool, wonderful child!

Here are some highlights of our 5 year old Liam:
  • 42 lbs... to be updated next week at his checkup
  • Sitting in a booster with a seat belt
  • Loving 4K.  Going to school is frequently reported as his favorite activity during our bedtime routine.
  • Reading A, B, and C books every night to Evan and us.  He is doing so well with sounding out words... building more and more confidence each day!  He is in a reading group once a week a school as an extension activity!
  • We have read many, many chapter books and it amazes me how much he understands and remembers from these books.  We have read Magic Treehouse books, many of the Little House on the Prairie and just recently started Charlotte's Web.  He still loves his picture books, with any Mo Willems book, Help I don't have a title, Wild Boars Books and others as his favorites!
  • He loves counting!  He can count by 1s, 5s and 10s to get to 100.  We have spent a lot of time counting items past 100 and he loves figuring out the patterns!  He likes making his own 2 and 3 part patterns, loves dot to dots and other math activities!
  • His favorite things at school are playing and creating things in centers.  He is a very social boy who plays with everyone at both Ycare and 4K.
  • His favorite foods are fruit (strawberries especially!), cucumbers, red peppers, cheese, yogurt and grilled cheese.  We continue to try to expand his food likes, but it is a challenge!
  • He likes watching Curious George, Caillou, Bob the Builder and other shows.  He has ventured out in some of his shows and movies.  His current favorite movie remains The Polar Express.
  • Liam loves playing with a lot of different toys, but continues to love trains, Legos, vehicles, diggers and coloring.
  • He is drawing people with bodies, arms, legs, and faces.  The bodies tend to be tall with abnormally proportioned arms and legs and they are just too precious!  He just recently drew a picture with all the members of his family.  He is writing his name over EVERYTHING!  He will try out some invented spelling, but he really just likes to spell things when he knows exactly how to spell it!
  • He is such a helper for Mom and Dad.  He gets dressed on his own, clears his dishes, keeps his room neat and is always willing to help out with an extra chore or two.  He is the world's best brother.  I cannot believe what an awesome role model and helper he is for Evan.  Evan just loves and idolizes every single thing Liam does.
We are so proud of you Liam!
